I read an amazing statistic today. In South Africa there are only 6.2m computers, compared to 69m mobile phone users! So if your a global brand struggling to gain brand penetration through traditional digital marketing perhaps mobile could give you a bigger reach.
Comscore estimate that by 2013 nearly 40% of internet access will be done via a mobile devise. Sales of smart phones throughout 2012 seem to support this position with 40% of all US smartphone sales being on android and smartphones themselves accounting for 73% of the mobile phone market.
I also read Saatchi research on the power of mobile on emerging markets. Where the future forecast for mobile consumption in India & China is eye wateringly high.
So is mobile the future marketing channel? Will it take over from traditional marketing channel such as internet and TV? Will the MMA make life easier for those seeking to use the reach of mobile? Best not wait and see eh, best start preparing those mobile strategy plans for 2013 – 2014.
